Why a disciple must rediscover these things about the Savior time and time again
So often in my life I have found this to be true, no matter how well I know a person or a subject my passion for either can start to fade and I have to rediscover the reason for my passion, take a good look, a deeper look. I find myself needing to go back to the foundational truth about the person or subject, and it is then that my passion is set a flame again.
As a disciple of Jesus Christ, this has also been true, and here are a few things that I have found I must often rediscover about Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is…….
Faithful. Yes many of us know this truth, but I have found in my life that knowing a truth in your head and rediscovering it in your heart are two different things. I’m not sure why I often need a truth reawakened in my heart but I do. I need to be reminded. I need to rediscover that no matter how I may act towards Jesus, He remains faithful. 2nd Timothy 2:13, “If we are faithless, he remains faithful for he cannot deny himself.” You see it’s the rediscovering that no matter what, Jesus will remain faithful. That moves my heart and fans my passion to be more faithful to Him. This rediscovering moves me to action to live my life in ways that please Jesus. It causes me to want to live a life worthy of a disciple of His.
Good and Kind. This is one of the truths about Jesus that often times changes everything for me. The other day we were singing worship songs and the theme of most of the songs was the goodness of Jesus Christ. It was as if this truth was being poured into my very soul, and as if it was the first time this truth was so clear to me and all that it meant. I think God opened my eyes and I saw His goodness in a way I have never seen it before. He is good! Everything He does is good, and He is always good towards those who are His own. As I rediscover this truth, I got on my knees and I repented. As I rediscover God’s kindness, it brought me to repentance, which is what Romans 2:4 says, “Or do you despise the riches of His kindness, restraint, and patience, not recognizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?”
Loving. Of all that we must constantly rediscover about Jesus, it is that He loves us. Yes, Jesus loves us. Romans 5:6-8 states, “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” While I was still a sinner Christ died for me. He loved me when I was unlovable; when I was at my worst, I was still loved. As I disciple I must rediscover that truth. It is the love of God that causes me to turn to Jesus. Now as a disciple, His love must be the heartbeat of my life. It must be the driver of my passion, my hope and my anchor.
These things I must constantly be rediscovering, over and over again. For these truths will keep you and protect you and encourage you as you walk as a disciple of Jesus.
